Raymond
Buchheister is accomplished at drawing and painting and works in
a variety of mediums including pencil, charcoal, pastel, acrylic,
and oil. He paints part time, has had paintings in juried exhibitions,
and does private commissions. He also teaches the fundamentals of
drawing and oil painting at his resident studio in Fairfield, PA.
Buchheister
enjoys teaching all ages, but has a particular interest in educating
young adults. He teaches primarily to fill a void that is often
lacking in high school curriculum. He mentors students at developing
drawing and painting skills, developing a portfolio, and making
contacts in the visual art markets. He introduces them to exhibitions
and art programs, and gives them guidance in obtaining grants
and scholarships in an effort to attend a four-year college program,
atelier, or art league school. In 2009 Buchheister received a
teachers recognition award from the U.S. Department of Education
for his work with his student Peter Ferguson, a 2009 Presidential
Scholar of the Arts.
